一 | United Nations, Oct 11 (UNI) The UN General Assembly on Tuesday elected 14 states into the Human Rights Council to succeed outgoing members.
Through secret ballot, Algeria, Morocco, South Africa, Sudan (for Africa); Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Vietnam (for the Asia-Pacific); Georgia, Romania (for Eastern Europe); Chile, Costa Rica (for Latin America and the Caribbean); Belgium, Germany (for Western Europe and other states), were elected for a three-year term beginning on Jan. 1, 2023.
Of the 14 states, Susan and Germany were elected for a consecutive second term.
The Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body responsible for promoting and protecting human rights around the world.
It has 47 members, about a third of which are replaced every year so that the council members serve staggered three-year terms for the sake of continuity.
The members of the council are not eligible for immediate re-election after two consecutive terms.
Seats of the UN Human Rights Council are allocated on a regional group basis: 13 each for Africa and the Asia-Pacific; 8 for Latin America and the Caribbean; 7 for Western Europe and other states; 6 for Eastern Europe.

[사진=MBC 유튜브]26일 박수민 국민의힘 의원실에 따르면 실종 허위 종결한 제주서부경찰서 부모 경장은 지난 6월 26일 '실종 치매 노인 발견 유공' 사유로 경찰청장 표창을 받았다.장씨에 대한 실종신고를 허위로 종결한 지 한달여 지난 시점이다.부 경장은 이 외에도 2025년 9월 자살 기도자를 신속하게 발견한 공로로 경찰서장 표창을 받았고, 같은해 12월 제주경찰청장에게 연말 정기 표창을 받는 등 2020년부터 모두 10건의 상훈을 받은 것으로 파악됐다.반면 시점은 특정되지 않았으나 부 경장은 가정 폭력으로 감찰 조사를 받아 징계위에 회부된 전력이 있는 것으로 드러났다.부 경장은 여성화장실에 몰래 들어가 촬영한 혐의로도 조사를 받고 있다.부 경장은 앞서 장씨에 대해서는 '교통사고 사망'으로, 60대 남성 실종자에 대해서는 '소재 확인'으로 허위 입력해 종결한 혐의를 받는다.부 경장은 현재 "실종자와 연락했다"는 기존 주장을 유지하며 허위 종결 혐의를 부인하고 있다.。
